Symptoms of Anemia in Women

Symptoms of Anemia in Women

Introduction

Anemia is one of the most common health problems among women, especially during the reproductive years because of blood loss during menstruation or pregnancy and childbirth. Low hemoglobin or iron reduces oxygen delivery to cells, causing a range of symptoms that may affect daily life.

Main Symptoms:

1. Fatigue and Weakness

A woman feels constantly exhausted, even with the slightest effort, because of insufficient oxygen in body tissues.

2. Lack of Energy and Discomfort

This appears as persistent lethargy, difficulty performing everyday activities, and not feeling refreshed even after sleep.

3. Dizziness

A woman may feel unsteady or suddenly dizzy due to reduced blood supply to the brain.

4. Shortness of Breath and Chest Pain

This often occurs during physical exertion as the heart and lungs try to compensate for insufficient oxygen.

5. Pale Skin

Particularly around the lips and nails, this is an early sign of low hemoglobin.

6. Headaches

These occur because of reduced blood flow to the brain and may be accompanied by distraction and poor concentration.

7. Poor Appetite and Difficulty Concentrating

These common symptoms may lead to malnutrition and worsen the problem.

8. Feeling Cold or Having Chills

Caused by poor circulation and reduced blood supply to the extremities.

9. Low Blood Pressure and Rapid Heartbeat

The heart tries to pump more blood to compensate for insufficient oxygen, sometimes resulting in an irregular heartbeat.

Medical Advice From AlFarabi Medical Labs

Anemia has many causes, most notably iron deficiency or deficiencies in vitamins such as B12 and folic acid. It is therefore important not to ignore symptoms and to seek necessary medical tests, such as a complete blood count (CBC).
Treatment may include improving the diet with iron-rich foods such as red meat and leafy vegetables, or taking supplements under a doctor’s supervision.

A test result is not a diagnosis. Show it to your doctor.
